Feb 8, 2010, Safe to Travel in Virginia? Here's the Scoop
Is it safe to travel in Virginia? Depends on where you are. Washington DC still sits blanketed under two feet, but southeast of Richmond to Virginia Beach is still fairly navigable, except for some early morning ice. Yesterday, we were able to travel from Newport News (no real accumulation) to Williamsburg (just slush) to Charlottesville (13-18 inches, but main roads are okay) with no problems. Richmond Airport and Norfolk Airports are is now almost back to a regular schedule, but Dulles Airport in Washington DC is still struggling.

Feb 8, 2010, Virginia Beach Polar Plungers Defy Storn
Braving 30 mph winds, temps in the 30s, and frigid surf, about 2600 people braved the ocean at the annual Virginia Beach Polar Plunge Feb. 6, according to the Virginia PilotOnline. The event--which was the coldest in its 18-year history--raised over $800,000 for the Special Olympics. Among the plungers braving the 39 degree water were people dressed as Cookie Monster, Uncle Sam, and the Flintstones.

Two Virginia Beach hotels have made Trip Advisor.com's "Dirtiest Hotels" list. They rated the Tropicana Resort Hotel on Atlantic Avenue and the Super 8 Virginia Beach at 26th and Atlantic as #3 and #4 on the list of dirtiest hotels. The ratings are based on reviews sent in by the public.
In contrast, Trip Advisor reviewers rated the Spring Hill Suites Virginia Beach Oceanfront, and the Fairfield Inn Virginia Beach Oceanfront as their number one and two hotel picks in the area.
