Starting July 1, it is illegal to text and drive in the state of Virginia. Whether you send or just read a text message while driving, you will be subject to a $25 ticket. Texting while driving is a secondary offense, so you can only be caught if you are pulled over for another offense (like swerving). But since a car crash could really put a damper on your vacation, while risk it by texting?

Virginia Beach will host a tribute to classic rock called "Sandstock" on June 26-28. The free event will featuring bands tributing rock legends like Pink Floyd, The Who, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, and the Grateful Dead. The bands will play at street parks along the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Special events include a Pink Floyd Laser Show on Friday and Saturday nights.

Virginia Beach Blvd at Great Neck Rd. General Booth at Dam Neck Rd. Holland Rd. and Rosemont Rd. Military Hwy. and Indian River Rd. Kempsville and Indian River Rd. Independence and Va. Beach Blvd.

Nauticus, the marine science museum in Norfolk, VA, is celebrating its 15th anniversary with free admission on Saturday, June 6th, from 10 am to 5 pm. Visitors are just asked to bring a small toy gift which the museum will donate to a local charity.

The renowned Commodore Theatre in Norfolk, Virginia, is having a Bluegrass Festival on Sunday, May 24th at 2 pm. Acts include the Blues and Ballads with Takeharu Kunimoto and the Last Frontier, and singer-songwriter Katie Hoffman. Lunch starts at 12:30 pm. May 17, 2009, Free Military Admission to Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg is offering free admission to military members and their families May 22-25 to celebrate Memorial Day. According to the Virginia Pilot, the deal is available to all active duty military, veterans, retirees, reservists and their families.

If the military member is on deployment, immediate family members need only show appropriate identification. You must visit the Colonial Williamsburg ticket sales window to receive the passes.

In addition, the attraction will hold a special fife and drums Memorial Day event May 25 at 10 am. For more info, call 800-447-8679.

Colonial Williamsburg is offering a Colonial Kids Club summer adventure. The half day or full day mini camps are available to kids ages 5 to 12 staying at Colonial Williamsburgs official on-site hotels. The camps provide the kids with supervised hands-on colonial games and activities, while allowing parents alone time at to relax in spa, play golf, shop, or visit the locsal sight.

Price for the all-day session is $40 for one child, and $25 each additional child. Half-day morning or afternoon sessions are $25 for one child, $15 each additional child. Space is limited. Call 1-800-447-8679 for details.
